Position:                    Music Theory

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain excellence in scholarly research and publication; direct aural skills program, undergraduate and graduate teaching in music theory, direct undergraduate and graduate research; other teaching duties based on the School's needs and applicant's skills. 

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a doctorate in music theory or related field with emphasis in music theory and aural skills (ABD may also be considered); demonstrated success in college teaching, a proven record or promise of significant achievement in scholarly research, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 

GENERAL INFORMATION: The University of South Carolina in Columbia, founded in 1801, is the flagship institution of a seven-campus, fully accredited, state-supported system. The School of Music is an independent unit on campus and a dynamic leader for music and music education in America with a full-time faculty of 44, and a student population of 325 undergraduate and 120 graduate majors representing numerous states and countries. Degrees are offered through the doctoral level in performance, piano pedagogy, music education and composition. A recently-constructed music building offers state-of-the-art teaching, performing, and classroom space.
