The Music Department of SCSU seeks a dynamic experienced leader to join
our outstanding faculty as Department Chairperson. This tenure track 
position begins with the Fall Term 2007. The assignment as Chairperson
is for three years and is renewable by faculty election.

Proven prior administrative experience at the program level is
essential for this position. The Chairperson will advocate the 
Department's interests within the University and externally. She or he
will manage the operational and planning responsibilities of the
Department, including student advisement; class scheduling; the
personnel process; curriculum development; budgeting; institutional 
assessment and university reporting. The Chairperson's communication
skills will reflect our tradition of collaborative decision-making.

The Department anticipates continued significant growth in student
enrollment.  Emphasis will focus on enhancing our recently approved
major, a program that offers instruction in classical, popular and jazz
styles leading to the B.A. degree.

Required qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate; 
a record of successful administrative activity; at least five years of
effective teaching of music at the college/university level; scholarly
achievement appropriate to the rank.

Strongly preferred qualifications include experience as Concert Band 
Director. The band has a heritage of strong performances. It consists
of majors and non-majors, students from nearby universities and
musicians from the greater New Haven community. Alternatively, teaching
specializations in Musicianship, ethnomusicology, or keyboard will be 
considered.  A record of strategic planning is certainly welcome.
