POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF MUSICOLOGY, TENURE TRACK

Chair of the Department of Musicology

Effective August 15, 2007 

The Frost School of Music is seeking an individual to chair the Department of Musicology (MCY) who will teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses.  The successful candidate will have an established record of scholarship and teaching sufficient to support a three-year fast-track transition to the earning of tenure.  Demonstrated administrative abilities, leadership skills, and an earned Ph.D. in musicology are required.  The salary will be competitive. 
THE UNIVERSITY AND THE FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC: The University of Miami is a private, independent, comprehensive university with an enrollment of approximately 14,500 students from all fifty states and over 100 countries.  The main campus is located in Coral Gables, a residential suburb of Miami.  The Frost School of Music has an enrollment of approximately 750 majors in 31 programs leading toward B.A., B.S., B.M., M.M., M.S., D.M.A., and Ph.D. degrees.  These programs are served by approximately 60 full-time and 34 part-time faculty, plus 74 graduate teaching assistants. 
THE MUSICOLOGY DEPARTMENT: The Department of Musicology has three full-time faculty who possess a wide variety of research and teaching interests, serving both traditional and contemporary programs in one of the nation’s most comprehensive music units.  Twelve faculty from other departments teach specialized literature courses for majors and non-majors.  The Frost School offers a Master of Music degree in Musicology. 

Of special note is the new state-of-the-art Marta and Austin Weeks Music Library which contains substantial collections in support of the work of students, faculty, and wider clientele.
