Position: Assistant professor in musicology or ethnomusicology:
The Thornton School of Music of the University of Southern California is searching for a specialist in musical cultures of the West Coast or Pacific Rim to join its faculty in the fall term of 2007. We particularly invite applications from ethnomusicologists or musicologists studying one or more of the following: music of diaspora and immigrant populations, film music, or the entertainment industry. This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Applicants should have completed the Ph.D. degree (or have a Ph.D. in hand by August 2007) and be active researchers with significant publications and other professional credentials. They should have a record of successful teaching in a broad range of subjects; secondary specializations in and experience with Western music (in areas such as early music and music theory) are desirable. The appointee should also be prepared to coordinate and help to shape an integrated program of general musical studies and core academic courses for undergraduate music majors.
