The University of Texas School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in the Musicology/Ethnomusicology Division at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (tenured or tenure-track; rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience). The successful applicant will have a research specialization in the area of African-American music. The University of Texas School of Music supports performance and scholarship across a wide range of music from world, North American vernacular, and Western art traditions. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach courses that will reinforce, complement, and expand our curricular offerings. We are especially interested in scholars who are able to teach courses on a diversity of African-American sacred and secular musics. A research focus on religion in African-American culture and an ability to direct or oversee ensembles are especially desirable, as is a familiarity with North American concert m
usic traditions.

Responsibilities of the position begin in fall, 2007 and will include active research and publication; teaching courses for non-majors, undergraduate majors, and special-topic graduate seminars; service on graduate committees; supervision of Master's reports, Ph.D. dissertations, and D.M.A. treatises; and may include ensemble coordination, as appropriate.

Review of applications begins November 15, 2006, and continues until a successful candidate is named.
