CALL FOR PAPERS - DEADLINE EXTENDED

The LYRICA SOCIETY FOR WORD-MUSIC RELATIONS is pleased to announce its annual colloquia at the National Opera Association's 2007 Convention (www.noa.org), to be held in New York City, January 4-7, 2007, at the Roosevelt Hotel, Madison Avenue at 45th Street. Lyrica's sessions will be held on Saturday, January 6th, from 9-11 a.m. and from 2-4 p.m.

To complement the National Opera Association's Legacy Project, which honors African-American singers, LYRICA's sessions honor African-American composers and composers of the African diaspora. Repertoire to be examined may include, in addition to opera and operetta, other forms of stage works, ceremonial and religious rites and rituals. Three papers or lecture-recitals will be presented at each session.

Interested musicologists, ethnomusicologists, anthropologists, cultural
historians and literary scholars should submit abstracts not exceeding 250 words, with updated biographical notices by December 15th to:

lyricasociety at aol.com

citing LYRICA/NOA in the subject line.

Papers read at Lyrica's conference sessions are automatically considered for publication in the Society's peer-reviewed journal, "Ars Lyrica". Participating scholars are expected to be or to become bona fide members of the Lyrica Society.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Cordially,

Mark DeVoto

Professor of Music, emeritus
Tufts University
Liaison Officer, the Lyrica Society
