Black American Studies Program
The Black American Studies Program at the University of Delaware invites
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with
specialization in an Arts and Humanities discipline beginning September
1, 2007. Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. A successful
candidate should have an active research program that addresses critical
aspects of the Black American Experience in U.S. or the African
Diaspora. Specialization is open but this search is particularly
interested in candidates with training in Philosophy (especially focused
on the Arts and Literature); Cultural Studies (especially visual
studies); American Studies; or the study of Performing Arts in African
American Culture. The candidate will have a joint appointment between
Black American Studies and the relevant Arts and Humanities department
and the successful candidate's tenure home would be in Black American
Studies.
The Black American Studies Program at the University of Delaware is a
broad interdisciplinary group of five core and eleven joint
faculty with strengths in African American art and art history,
literature, history, sociology, criminal justice, psychology, political
science and law and public policy. We are particularly interested in
candidates with a research and teaching commitment to a disciplinary
focus on any aspect of the African Diasporic experience. The University
of Delaware is also the home of the Distinguished Paul R. Jones
Collection of African American Art. Thus a candidate whose scholarship
would be relevant to the Collection would be particularly desirable.
More information on the Black American Studies Program can be found on

representative examples of scholarly writing to: Timothy Spaulding,
Chair, Black American Studies Search Committee, Black American Studies,
417 Ewing, University of Delaware; Newark, DE 19716. Applications must
be postmarked by January 19, 2007. Reviewing of applications will begin
February 1, 2007 and continue until the position is filled.
