The Society for American Music is pleased to announce that information
and registration is now available for our upcoming joint conference with
the Music Library Association, February 28-March 4, 2007 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania.
Details for the conference may be found at: <http://www.pitt.edu/%7Emla2007>www.pitt.edu/~mla2007
or <http://www.american-music.org>www.american-music.org. Those wishing to register online who are not
MLA members may use the following userid (SAM27188) and password
(1163597096).
The conference will take place at the Pittsburgh Hilton, located where
the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers meet to form the Ohio River,
providing a spectacular view. Both MLA and SAM have wonderful tours of
the city planned, including a visit to the campus of the University of
Pittsburgh, with a tour of the Stephen Foster Memorial.
The conference program will be bookended by two significant events: A
Thursday morning plenary session, "John Cage's Chess Pieces: A
Rediscovery" with a performance by pianist Margaret Leng Tan. Closing
the conference will be a "Gershwin Extravaganza" on Sunday morning,
featuring back-to-back sessions related to Gershwin's music. We hope
these two sessions will tempt you to arrive early and stay late. The SAM
and MLA program committees have made the entire conference program
transparent so sessions are integrated specifically to address the
interests of all attendees.
We hope you will attend this important conference open to all with an
interest in American music, and look forward to welcoming you to Pittsburgh.
